The Columbus branch of the NAACP welcomes everyone to the 2025 Juneteenth Jubilee celebration, this year. Multiple events beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, will tell the story of the resilience of the Black community and how food, music, art and movement have connected to help heal suffering over centuries of enslavement.
Juneteenth, June 19, is now a federal holiday that commemorates and celebrates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston to announce that the 250,000 enslaved Black people in Texas were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
